At PepsiCo UK we are proud to have a number of apprentices on our Grow Our Own programme who work across our sites in a variety of roles - each of them enabling us to continue making some of the country’s best loved snacks and beverages.

The programme, which aims to equip people with the skills to embark on an exciting and rewarding career within the food and drink sector, has improved our daily performance and created a quality talent pipeline. In fact, 89% of on programme apprentices feel their training is having a positive impact on developing their capability.

But it’s not just us that can see its huge benefits. The success of programme has led to us being recognised by trade partners and Government ministers as exemplary, providing a best practice case study for others to copy, as well as being awarded ‘Training Programme of the Year’, By Food Manufacturing Excellence 2018. In March 2019, the programme also received the highest Global accolade within PepsiCo, the ‘Chairman’s Performance with Purpose Award’.

We have even more gongs to add to the list after the programme was awarded the Large Employer of the Year category for the East Midlands Region at the 2019 National Apprentice Awards, as well as being highly commended in the independently nominated Recruitment Excellence category.

We’re not resting on our laurels though, we’re taking learnings from each apprenticeship group so that each new intake is adapted and enriched, to ensure that insights and new capabilities are added and removed according to the business, individuals and the qualification levels required. We’ve also connected on a number of occasions with other organisations to share our apprenticeship journey, transfer our knowledge and best practices – this includes Avara Foods and the clothing manufacturer Burberry.

This way we can ensure our apprentices get the skills they need to flourish individually, as well as enabling PepsiCo to flourish too (and, fingers crossed, get a few more awards along the way!).
