Promoting a healthy diet

The Government recommends we eat at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables per day. Yet average fruit and vegetable consumption levels in England are less than three portions a day, and consumption tends to be lower among children and people on low incomes. That means people may not be getting the fibre and some of the nutrients needed for a healthy diet.

To help address this challenge our portfolio of products increasingly includes products with positive nutrition. We have launched new and great tasting products based on wholegrain (Quaker Granolas and SunBites) which are also a source of fibre in addition to an increasing range of products which contribute to 5 A Day (juices and smoothies). In addition, some of our juice products have additional beneficial ingredients such as calcium and multivitamins.

Supplementing our products with nutrients

Vitamins

Achieving a healthy balanced diet is not always easy day in, day out. In our Tropicana Essentials range we have added nutrients to our juices to help meet the needs of those people who are looking for a nutrient boost.

We've added Vitamins C, B1, B2, B6, Provitamin A and Vitamin E to our Tropicana Multivitamins juice to help boost the intake of these important nutrients. For example, Vitamin C can help the absorption of iron and B vitamins are important for the release of energy from food.

Calcium and Fibre

In the UK calcium, which is need for strong bones and teeth, is a nutrient of concern in some age groups. Also, most of us don't eat enough dietary fibre which helps to maintain a healthy digestive system.

In recognition of consumer needs in this area we have two products which help boost the intake of these nutrients. Tropicana Essentials Calcium is has added calcium and is a great alternative if you don't like milk and Tropicana Essentials Fibre has, as you've probably guessed, an additional source of fibre.

Natural ingredients

We recognise UK consumers are increasingly demanding the food and beverages they buy to be made from natural ingredients.

And we're responding by using more of these ingredients in our products. For example this year we've launched a new Pepsi drink - Pepsi Raw (our first new cola brand in over ten years) - which is made using ingredients from natural sources and contains no artificial preservatives, colours, flavourings or sweeteners.
