Our pledges: barriers and challenges

Many of the commitments and targets in this Report are challenging and require us to use our influence with consumers, retailer customers, suppliers and within the product categories we operate to drive change.

Meeting our targets will require co-operation across every level of our business. In some areas we will also need to invest in technical advances, engage our suppliers, and encourage agricultural and sourcing changes to help deliver our health and wellness agenda. At the same time we will rely on co-operation with government, other stakeholders in civil society, and our competitors to ensure these commitments can be delivered.

Here we have listed some of our pledges up to 2015, and some of the challenges that may arise. Throughout this report we have also posed a number of dilemmas, based on the key challenges we anticipate. As well as seeking to make progress against our commitments, we will also work through these dilemmas, using expertise drawn from both within and outside the company.
