Richard Evans,President, PepsiCo UK & Ireland:
"In 2008 PepsiCo UK & Ireland (PIUK) published a series of environmental commitments. We promised both short-term action and long-term transformation, inside our business, and as an agent for change across our supply chain. During 2008 we reduced our energy and water use and radically cut our waste sent to landfill delivering key targets and pledges. We also held our absolute carbon footprint flat despite growing by almost 10%.
I am proud that we have invested real time and effort, during the current economic crisis, into long-term solutions. We're investigating the potential for on-site renewables at all our sites, identifying how we could capture the water embedded in our potatoes for re-use and using our positive infuence with our farmers to reduce their carbon footprint. We have also redoubled our efforts to bring outside expertise into our business, partnering or taking advice from the Carbon Trust, Carbon Disclosure Project, WWF, Forum for the Future and a host of others.
Like any business, we know transformational change is required to truly become a sustainable business. We hope you will help us on that journey."

Climate change
Our business relies on a healthy planet. Climate change, unpredictable weather patterns and scarce resources affect our business, our consumers and their future. We are changing the way we work to reduce our impact on the planet.

Waste & packaging
Society is using the Earth's resources much faster than they can be replaced. To play our part in addressing this unsustainable consumption, we will reduce our use of non-renewable energy and materials, and send less waste to landfill.

Sustainable supply chain
The majority of our impact lies outside our four walls. We are acting as an agent for change with our supply chains, and collaborating with our suppliers, growers and others to minimise our overall environmental impact.
