Pepsi Max

Pepsi-Cola is one of the world's favourite drinks, enjoyed by millions every day, and is a top 50 global brand.

Our biggest selling cola brand is Pepsi Max, our full-flavour sugar-free cola. Pepsi Max is the fastest growing cola in the UK market. First launched in 1993, Pepsi Max offered consumers the full Pepsi taste with none of the sugar. By the end of 1994, it was being sold in more than 20 countries around the world.

The newest member of the Pepsi brand is Pepsi Raw. Launched in 2008, Raw is made with ingredients from natural sources.

The history of Pepsi-Cola

Pepsi-Cola was invented in 1898 in New Bern, North Carolina, by pharmacist Caleb Bradham. Initially known as "Brad's Drink", the Pepsi-Cola name was trademarked in 1903. 1964 saw the creation of Diet Pepsi, followed by Pepsi Max in 1993.

Pepsi-Cola in the UK

Pepsi-Cola first crossed the Atlantic to go on sale in the UK in 1953. Since then, the UK has grown to become a significant and influential market for Pepsi. Pepsi MAX was launched in the UK before anywhere else and is now the most popular Pepsi drink across the world.

Our latest innovation, Pepsi Raw, was also launched exclusively in the UK, inspired by the growing consumer interest in the UK for a premium cola made from sparkling water and ingredients from natural sources.

Over the years, there has been a number of special limited edition Pepsi flavours released in the UK, including: Pepsi Max Twist, cola with a twist of lime, and Pepsi Cino, cola infused with the flavour of cappuccino.

Pepsi is manufactured, bottled and distributed in the UK and Ireland by Britvic Soft Drinks Ltd.

Responsible marketing

Pepsi is committed to responsible marketing. Our efforts to promote Pepsi Max and Diet Pepsi to consumers has meant that our sugar free drinks account for more than 50% of all our carbonated soft drinks sales in the UK.

Pepsi signed up to the Union of European Beverages Association (UNESDA) code, a self-regulatory code restricting advertising to children in 2006. This was ahead of the Government's Office of Communications (Ofcom) ruling to restrict advertising to children, which came into effect in 2007.

World class advertising

Pepsi Cola is known for its world class advertising which is enjoyed year after year around the world featuring memorable jingles, music and football celebrities of international and local appeal. Since the 1980s, the brand has worked with some of the biggest music stars of the day, from Michael Jackson and Tina Turner, through to Rod Stewart, Robbie Williams, Pink, Beyonce and the Black Eyed Peas.

Pepsi has an equally strong heritage with football, and has featured some of the world's top players in a series of advertising campaigns from David Beckham through to Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho.
