Doritos: you make it, we replay it

Tribe, the competition winning Doritos TV ad created by consumers to be replayed.

The consumer generated television advert for Doritos that was aired in June 2008 is set to return to our screens this month. Having seen a significant rise in sales following its initial airing, Walkers, Britain's No.1 crisps and snacks manufacturer, has decided to run the winning ad again. The re-launch of the advert is anticipated to create a similar reaction from consumers, and Walkers is urging retailers to ensure they are well stocked up on this popular snack brand.

The advert, named "Tribe," was one of almost 1300 entered into Doritos' 'You Make It We Play It' competition in March 2008. It features a tribe of Doritos escaping from the pack and sacrificing one of their own to the God of Salsa, as soon as there are no humans around.

Created by Matt Bowron & John Addis from Highbury, the ad was selected by public vote and even received the accolade of being the first ever TV commercial broadcast into outer space towards possible extra terrestrial life. It was premiered on ITV1 as a solus ad break during a Euro 2008 match on Sunday June 15, 2008.

Doritos attribute the success of the advert to its consumer-generated origins. Pete Charles, Doritos Marketing Manager said, "The imagination and skill put into 'Tribe' really made it stand out. Other consumers clearly connected with Matt and John's ad when it originally aired, leading to an incredible response at retail level, so much so that we are going to run it again this year. We are confident that the advert will have a similar impact this time around and retailers should be ready for the increased demand for Doritos."

"Tribe" will air during February and March.
