03 March 2009

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded PepsiCo North America a 2009 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award in recognition of ongoing work to improve energy efficiency in the company.

PepsiCo was selected from more than 12,000 organisations which participate in the ENERGY STAR Programme for the award. The awards are given to organisations that have shown leadership in energy efficiency and reducing green house gases.

Through its Resource Conservation Programme PepsiCo has improved the energy efficiency of its US operations by nearly 30%, cutting greenhouse gas emissions by over 575,000 metric tonnes. PepsiCo has also helped improve energy efficiency throughout its supply chain, sharing expertise with contract manufacturers, bottlers and other key suppliers.

These recent achievements are part of PepsiCo's ongoing commitment to sustainable growth, which includes reducing water, electricity and fuel consumption by 2015.
