Cool Earth partnership with Red Sky saves 1,000 acres of Ecuadorian rainforest

Launched in March 2009 PepsiCo's new premium snacking range, Red Sky - with 100% natural ingredients and sustainability ambitions at its heart - has, through a partnership with Cool Earth, already protected over 1,000 acres of rainforest in Ecuador.

The strong partnership between Cool Earth, Red Sky and consumers is helping to protect strategic strips of endangered rainforest, keeping carbon where it belongs. For every large pack sold, Red Sky protects 10 sqft of rainforest and for every smaller pack, 5 sqft will be saved. The 1,000 acres already protected is the equivalent to over 7,500 tennis courts, and the carbon equivalent of over half a million flights from London to New York.

Rainforest strips are protected in areas most at risk of deforestation. They are then safeguarded through partnership with local community groups, locally employed rangers, or monitoring through satellite images and local environmental protection partners.

In addition to their partnership with Cool Earth, Red Sky are also the first Crisp brand to use packaging partly made from paper across their range. The paper used comes from sustainable sources, accredited by the Forestry Stewardship Council.
