At PepsiCo Performance with Purpose means delivering sustainable growth by investing in a healthier future for people and our planet. As part of these values, from this winter Red Sky packaging will be proud to feature The Prince's Countryside Fund logo on pack, demonstrating the importance of the British countryside in the sourcing our potatoes for Red Sky crisps, part of the Walkers brand.
On 22nd July 2010, HRH The Prince of Wales and leaders of the food industry launched The Prince's Countryside Fund which aims to help secure a sustainable future for British agriculture and the wider rural economy. Companies involved have contributed to a starting pot of £1m which, through funding projects, aims to support and safeguard rural communities and family farms, whilst educating the public about the importance of agriculture. The Prince's Countryside Fund trustee board is chaired by the Managing Director of Waitrose, Mark Price.
At the launch event, The Prince of Wales spoke not just of the challenges of country life for farmers and their communities but also of the importance of British farming to the wider economy. This is fundamentally why he, through Business in the Community (BITC), sought the support of a host of the most well know retailers and manufacturers whom have a special connection to the British countryside through the products they sell or manufacturer in supporting his new fund.
Tor Harris, Director of The Prince's Rural Action Programme, said: "Business in the Community is delighted that PepsiCo has taken a leading role in its latest Rural Action initiative, The Prince's Countryside Fund. It is great to see PepsiCo acting on its membership commitments by joining the group of 15 founding food companies who are working together to help secure a sustainable future for British agriculture and rural communities."
Richard Evans, President of PepsiCo UK & Ireland, comments "For over 25 years we've been investing in the future of the 350 UK farms we work with. We're committed to ensuring UK farmland can remain resilient for future generations of farmers. We have long standing contracts with our growers - this means we have a vested interest in their long term viability and can create sustainability strategies collaboratively."
At PepsiCo we have made a promise to respect and responsibly use natural resources in our businesses and in the local communities we serve by;
- Applying proven sustainable agricultural practices on our farmed land
- Providing funding, technical support and training to local farmers
- Promoting environmental education and best practices among our associates and business partners
- Integrating our policies and actions on human health, agriculture and the environment to make sure they support each other.
