The new research laboratory in New Haven is PepsiCo's ninth global research centre and will focus on long-term research aimed at developing healthier food and beverage products. It is part of a wider objective by PepsiCo to improve the nutritional profile of our portfolio of products. Within the past two years, we have added a number of specialists to our staff including celebrated clinical scientists and experts in nutrition, food safety, epidemiology and health policy.

Dr Mehmood Khan, PepsiCo's Chief Scientific Officer (and endocrinologist) comments: "Ultimately, we're trying to make it easier for consumers to lead healthier lifestyles. We're confident that the work we'll be doing in New Haven, in collaboration with some of the world's best scientists, will lead to advancements in nutrition and health for people across the globe."

The research laboratory neighbours Yale School of Medicine's campus and PepsiCo will also fund a graduate fellowship in the M.D. Ph.D program at Yale to support research related to nutritional science.

In 2007 PepsiCo opened a state of the art research facility for Europe in Beaumont Park, Leicester. The facility is focused on new product development and changes to current products. In 2009 we reduced the amount of salt found in Walkers crisps and snacks by 10%. This was in addition to the reduction of between 25 and 55% made across the range from 2005 to 2008.
