Walkers is reducing the volume of packaging used for its multipacks by 30%, as part of its ongoing efforts to minimise the environmental impact of its packaging.

From March 2019, the new compact packaging will roll out across 6 and 12-packs of Monster Munch, French Fries, Squares, Cheetos and Wotsits, and builds on similar redesigns of two of the most popular products: six-packs of Walkers and Quavers.

Introducing the new compact packaging design requires a multi-million investment to production lines at plants in Skelmersdale and Coventry and is another step towards reducing the impact of packaging on the environment.

Ian Ellington, General Manager, PepsiCo UK & Ireland said: “We share people’s concerns about the amount of plastic in our environment, multipacks make up around 80% of our sales in the UK so this is a significant step forward for us. This investment in compact packaging will reduce the volume we use in the short term, while we continue to develop alternative packaging solutions for the future.

“PepsiCo remains committed to its long-term ambition of making all of its packaging 100% recyclable, compostable or biodegradable by 2025.”
